‘Ride Ajman’ initiated by The Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD), is a cycle race organized on the streets of Ajman. This year, it will take place on Friday, 5th April.

It first ran in 2016 and after three successful years, Ride Ajman has renewed for a fourth edition.

The track will commence and end at Al Zorah Marina 1 - with full road closures - and will traverse the heart as well as many notable landmarks of the emirate of Ajman.

Participants have four rides to choose from depending on their experience and nationalities: 58 km UAE National, 58 km Open Category, 115 km UAE National, and 115 km Open Category. The last date for registration is Monday, April 1.

Joanna MacAdie, an employee at Ride Ajman, said: “We are expecting between 800 to 1000 participants this year.

“Participants are from all over the UAE. They are a mixture of both – we have professional teams participating but we have also people who are just interested in cycling.

“The winners are chosen from the two routes and the categories in which they enter. The top three will be the winners. In the 115 km category the prize is a trophy along with prize money. In the 58 km race, the prize is a trophy.”

Ride Ajman is the biggest cycling event in the emirate. Altogether, the reward money to be won is up to AED 30,000.

Nick Watson, father of Rio Watson of their dad-son duo Team Angel Wolf, who participated for two successive years, said: “The favourite thing that we enjoy about the race is that you get to go around the city and you see all the sights.

“It is great to be there with a variety of athletes because every year there are an enormous great standard of athletes there; some athletes from the UAE team were there last year.”

Unfortunately, Team Angel Wolf will not be able to make it this year: “We’re really disappointed that we have to miss it this time, but we would thoroughly recommend everyone to get involved."
